A Soviet nuclear plant using a Chernobyl-type reactor caught fire on Monday but no radiation leaks or injuries were reported, the government newspaper Izvestia said.

The Ignalina plant in Soviet Lithuania uses the type of reactor involved in the world's worst nuclear accident at Chernobyl in April 1986 that killed 31 people and sent a radioactive cloud across Europe.The blaze started early Monday in the cable room of the second unit of the nuclear power station when control cables caught fire, the newspaper said.
