A Grand Island, Neb., car dealership tried to light a fire under sales in an attempt to promote what the company called "the smokingest deals in town."

A salesman rigged an old Chevrolet with a smoke pot and controlled flames fed by a propane tank, making the car on the lot's corner look as if it were on fire. The promotion had the approval of city fire officials.Julie Kuhlman, receptionist at Hamilton Chevrolet-Cadillac-BMW, said passing drivers slammed on their brakes, jumped out of their cars and dashed to the dealership office to report the blazing car.

Still, no word was immediately forthcoming on whether sales heated up.
