Soon it will be legal to spit on the sidewalk in Gainesville, Ga., hold parties in residential neighborhoods and stay out later than 11 p.m.

Officials are updating the city code, throwing out antiquated laws that were never enforced. The new code takes effect July 1. Altogether, 40 outdated ordinances were tossed out.City Clerk Clarence Shore said the code was reduced from 900 to 547 pages.
