Utah State will compete in the men's and women's Big West Conference Track and Field Championships this weekend. The meet began today and will finish Saturday. The Aggie men's team appears capable of matching last year's third-place finish. Six USU athletes own conference-leading marks in their specialities.

Craig Carter has the top marks in the shot put and hammer, Jake Brown leads the 400-meter dashs, Scott Butterfield the 800, Brett Hill the steeplechase, Deron Scott the 5,000 and Tim Price in the intermediate hurdles. The Aggies also have the top 4 x 400-meter relay time. Matt Stowell, a freshman from East High School, is a top contender in the 400.The women's team, which will compete in the meet for the first time, also will be in the thick of things. Agneta Westen and Amanda Hopkins rank 1-2 in the high jump.
