Trap shooters from 25 states and Canada opened the final, and the richest, stages of the first annual Western Grand American shoot at the Salt Lake Gun Club on Saturday.

The first 100 of 200 targets in the singles was shot, with about 30 shooters tied with perfect scores of 100. The final event will be the 100 doubles championships on Monday. Among those tied are Utahns Dale Amos and George Allen.In events already completed, Larry Mitchell won two handicap events from the 27-yard line with near perfect 99s. Larry Peterson of Salt Lake City won the 241/2-yard handicap with a 97 and Bobby Allsop of Salt Lake City, won the 21-yard handicap with a 99. Scott Doran of Salt Lake City, won the junior event.
