The Brigham Young University student chapter of the Society for the Advancement of Materials and Process Engineering (SAMPE) has been recognized as the nation's best chapter for the fourth consecutive year.

John Dredge, student chapter president, said the society recognized the BYU chapter at its annual meeting. He said a $1,000 scholarship accompanies the award, and this year it went to R. Scott Merrell of Loveland, Colo., a graduate student in computer-integrated manufacturing. The chapter also won the poster competition and a $300 award.Dredge said the first-place graduate scholarship, a $3,000 grant, went to David M. Fogg of Spokane, Wash., also in the computer-integrated manufacturing program at BYU. Two other graduate scholarship awards went to BYU graduate students - $2,000 to Dennis D. Olcott of Kirkland, Wash., and $1,000 to Lance Lewis of Modesto, Calif., both in mechanical engineering.
