Taylorsville gas station attendant Robert E. Lindsay, arrested Tuesday in Flagstaff, Ariz., on felony theft charges, waived extradition Wednesday and will be returned to Salt Lake early next week.
"We got a teletype from Flagstaff saying he had waived extradition and we had 10 days to come and pick him up," said Detective Commander Bill Van Wagenen of the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Department. The sheriff's department does not disclose the exact day or time it plans to transport a prisoner.
Flagstaff police arrested Lindsay, 28, on Utah theft warrants accusing him of taking $3,000 to $4,000 from the Phillips 66 gas station where he worked part time.
Lindsay disappeared from the station April 25 and was thought to have been kidnapped in a robbery at the gas station until his car was found abandoned at a car rental agency. Police then followed his trail through Nevada, Arizona and southern Utah before asking Flagstaff police to arrest him Tuesday.
