A trio of BYU pitchers threw eight scoreless innings and struck out 12 Wednesday in non-conference action to defeat Grand Canyon University, 10-2.

Starting pitcher Rob Jensen earned the victory throwing a five-hitter, while not walking a batter and striking out five in as many innings. Flame-thrower Ryan Hancock struck out seven batters in three innings and Mike Nielsen finished up with one hitless inning.Hancock struggled in the eighth inning when he walked four batters, threw a wild pitch and gave up a single to account for the Antelopes' two runs.

The Cougars got on the board early in the second inning with four consecutive singles off former BYU pitcher Bart Grubbs. Brent Turley singled in Troy Hymas, Gabe Diaz singled in Darren Milne and Turley scored off of one of two passed balls.

Diaz and Brian Simpson led the Cougars with three RBI each, with BYU stranding 13 runners to GCU's 10.

BYU, 30-13, returns to league play this weekend with a pair of noon doubleheaders against Colorado State. The Antelopes, 23-33, lost twice in as many days to BYU and three times this season and will next travel to Sacramento State.
