A Moroni man who pleaded guilty to forcible sodomy of a child, a first-degree felony, was sentenced Friday in 4th District Court to five years to life in prison.

Jack Johnston, 55, is one of five men charged with sex crimes involving the same 13-year-old girl. He was originally charged with forcible sodomy, rape of a child and sexual abuse of a child. The other charges were dismissed in exchange for the guilty plea.Johnston's attorney, Donald Elkins, told 4th Circuit Judge Joseph I. Dimick, filling in for Judge George E. Ballif, who is on medical leave, that Johnston does not deserve prison time.

County Attorney Kay Bryson said Johnston took advantage of the girl and Johnston does not want to deal with his problem. Dimick ordered the prison time and ordered Johnston to pay $1,500 in fines and fees.
