Topias "Toby" Martinez has been appointed supervisor of the Fishlake National Forest. In mid-June he will replace acting supervisor Ron Tew, who has held the temporary position since the retirement of former supervisor J. Kent Taylor.

A native of New Mexico, Martinez has been staff officer in charge of range, wildlife, soil and water on the Gila National Forest in New Mexico.He began his career as a summer student on the Tres Piedras Ranger District on the Carson National Forest, receiving a permanent appointment in 1969 on the El Rito Ranger District of that forest.

While at Globe, Ariz., Martinez has also held a similar position to the one he is leaving, and he was on the staff at the supervisor's office of the Santa Fe National Forest. He was a ranger for four years in Las Vegas and for seven years on the Carson Forest.
