Five home runs in the fifth inning powered BYU to a 19-2 victory over Grand Canyon University Tuesday in a non-conference game.
The Cougars, who now have a 29-14 record, got two of those fifth inning homers from first baseman Chris Cooper, who hit a three-run blast and a solo shot. Brent Brown and Blaine Milne each had solo homers and Brian Simpson had a two-run homer in that 10-run fifth inning.BYU lefthander Lance Clark pitched the first four innings and struck out seven Antelope batters to improve his record to 5-2.
GCU's Doug Kimball started the game on the mound, took the loss and gave his team the initial lead off his second-inning homer as the designated hitter.
The Antelopes have a 23-32 record and will have a Wednesday rematch with BYU at 2 p.m.
