Eva Ruth Browning, died, Saturday, May 4, 1991 at a local nursing home. She was 94.
Eva was born December 11, 1896 in Ogden, a daughter of Thomas Edmond and Clara Elizabeth Leatham Browning. She was a graduate of Weber Academy and Brigham Young University. She had done graduate work at the University of Oregon, University of Chicago and Columbia University in New York. Eva was the first librarian at what is now Weber State University, serving 32 years, from 1922 to 1954. She was the 1977 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award. In 1983 the Reference and Periodicals Wing of the Stewart Library at Weber State was named for her; in 1986 she received the prestigious H. Aldous Dixon Award. In addition to her career she enjoyed painting and gardening. Eva was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served as a Sunday School teacher, Junior Sunday School coordinator and organist.She is survived by one sister, Doris J. Browning, Ogden; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the graveside Friday at 1 p.m. at the Ogden City Cemetery with Bishop Richard C. Scott of the Highland Ward officiating. Friend may call at Lindquist's OgdenMortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Weber State University Library.
