A six-run first inning, highlighted by Brett Alvey's three-run home run, catapulted the University of Utah baseball team to a 9-2 victory over Grand Canyon University in the final home game for the Utes this season. Alvey's homer was his fourth in the last five games.
Kevin Quinn started on the mound for the Utes and earned the win, his second of the season against one loss. Quinn pitched five innings allowing five hits and one run.Utah is now 23-26 for the season. The Utes play their last regular season series this coming weekend against Hawaii in Honlulu. Utah enters the Hawaii games in fourth place in the Western Athletic Conference with a record of 11-8, a half game ahead of fifth place Wyoming. Only the top four teams continue on to the WAC Playoffs in Honolulu, May 16-18.
