Ten people have been arrested and warrants issued for two more in a drug and burglary ring involving the theft of explosives, according to Vernal police.
Seven adults and three juveniles have been taken into custody after a six-month sting operation involving agents from the Uintah Basin Narcotics Task Force, said Chief Mike Hamner.The suspects have been charged with 26 felony counts ranging from burglary and theft to unlawful handling of explosives, he said.
Booked into the Uintah County Jail were Michael John Ufford, 18; Martin Walston, 18; Gregory D. Taylor, 20; Paul Shane Fischer, 18; Jeannie Wallace, 21; Annette Carmichael, 28; and Russell Smithey, 21.
Felony warrants for two other unidentified suspects also have been issued, the chief said.
The juveniles were referred to juvenile court, Hamner said.
Two of the burglaries involved thefts of explosives from a Vernal business, Mercury Marine, and the Utah Division of Wildlife Resource's game farm, he said.
Police confiscated marijuana and LSD valued at more than $2,000, according to Detective Joe Boren.
The arrests took place in a series of raids conducted last Thursday, the chief said during a news conference Monday.
He said agents of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms also are involved in the investigation.
