A man whose pickup truck plunged into a canal at about 2300 West and 500 South Tuesday was pulled from the canal and taken to LDS Hospital.

Salt Lake Police Lt. Larry Stott said that about 11:30 a.m. some people in the area saw a pickup erratically running into objects before going into the canal. Three men who were eating lunch dived into the canal and later were joined by members of the police search-and-rescue team.The driver, who appeared to be in his late 20s, was taken by LifeFlight to LDS Hospital. His condition was unknown.
