A 56-year-old man tortured his estranged wife with a soldering iron before killing himself with a handgun early Sunday.
The man was under court order to stay away from his 47-year-old wife when he broke into her house at about 1 a.m. Sunday. He beat her with his fists and then tied her hands behind her back and dragged her into the garage where he put her on a work bench and used a soldering iron to burn her upper thighs and groin, according to a police report. He told her the burns were to give her something to remember him by. They left red marks but no blisters.
The man wrote a suicide note, then shot himself in the chin with a handgun. His wife fled the garage and was on her way to a neighbor's house when the man fatally shot himself a second time in the head, police said.
