Third-year Southern Utah University gymnastics coach Brent Hardcastle, who guided his team to the largest single-year jump in NCAA history and to the school's first postseason individual qualifier, has announced his resignation. Hardcastle, in his 14th year as a teacher and coach, cited inability to gain tenure at SUU as his reason. "It is in the vest interest of myself and my family that we look toward the future," Hardcastle said. "For us, that future includes the necessity of tenure."
This season, the T-Birds reached their first 185-plus score, boosted their scoring average from 179.38 in 1990 to 182.16 and sent freshman Julie Aguirre to the NCAA Midwest Regional for their first postseason appearance ever.
