A motorcyclist was seriously injured Sunday evening when he crashed on I-215 while trying to avoid hitting a pheasant.

Michael Brigham, 37, West Valley City, was southbound on the freeway at 3400 South about 6 p.m. when the bird ran across his path, said Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Craig Hicken.Brigham apparently lost control of his motorcycle and skidded across the pavement when he swerved to miss the pheasant, Hicken said. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Brigham was taken to Pioneer Valley Hospital, where he was treated for severe lacerations. He was listed in stable condition.
