Congressman Bill Orton of Utah's 3rd District has replaced Denver District Attorney Norman S. Early Jr. as keynote speaker for the Showcase of Services conference May 17 at Utah Valley Community College.
Bill Hulterstrom, director of United Way of Utah County and chairman of the conference, said Orton will discuss issues relating to human services at 1:30 p.m. in the UVCC Ballroom.Early had to cancel as keynoter because of commitments in Colorado.
The purpose of the one-day conference is to provide residents and organizations in central Utah with information on the many services that are available to them, Hulterstrom said. "Many valuable services go unused in our communities because people simply do not realize they exist," he said.
The conference will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at UVCC. Admission to all sessions is free.
More than 100 representatives from school, church, law enforcement, medical, city, county, state, civic and volunteer organizations are scheduled to deliver presentations on the services they provide.
They will discuss such issues as crime prevention, unemployment, aging, mental health, rape, child and spouse abuse, parenting, teenage pregnancy, pollution, drug abuse, eating disorders, functional illiteracy, guardianship, financial planning and career counseling.
