A Logan area man was killed and a 13-year-old boy was critically injured in separate auto-pedestrian accidents on I-15 in Layton Saturday night.

Killed in the one accident was Moises Chavez Flores, 50.The Davis County sheriff's office, which dispatches for the Utah Highway Patrol, reported Flores was hit by a foreign-made vehicle while apparently trying to cross the freeway near the Layton Hills Mall exit.

Flores had crossed the northbound lanes and was in the far right lane of the southbound lanes when he was struck by the car. Apparently, Flores' vehicle had mechanical or other problems, and he was attempting to cross the freeway for assistance. The name of the driver of the vehicle that first hit Flores has not been released by the sheriff's office, a dispatcher said.

Officers at the scene of the accident, which occurred about 10:30 p.m., reported other southbound cars also struck the body. Trooper Jeff Graviet investigated the accident.

About an hour earlier, a boy, whose name and address were not released by the sheriff's office, was struck by a car when he and a friend were running across northbound lanes of the freeway near the Church Street overpass, said a Davis County sheriff's spokeswoman.

The friend made it but the injured boy did not, she said. The 13-year-old was flown by helicopter to Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City. Davis County sheriff's officers said he suffered head and leg injuries. He was in stable condition early Monday.
