In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City, students from all Utah Catholic schools will participate in a 5-mile Walk for Charity on Ascension Thursday, May 9.

From 3,500 to 4,000 students are seeking financial pledges for every mile walked and will contribute the money to various charities. Some schools have chosen multiple charitable organizations, with many students seeking to assist the homeless. They will donate their funds to Habitat for Humanity, a Christian housing ministry that has already been assisted by Judge Memorial High School students.

A portion of most of the students' funds will go to Catholic Community Services.

The walkathon will actually be 11 individual walkathons of about 150 to 900 students each. Each school has a coordinator and has mapped out individual walks, most of which will last from 10 a.m. to noon.
