When the Traveler's Aid Society's new homeless shelter opens its doors to homeless families and men, they want to make the residents feel at home. Thanks to donated furnishings from the Salt Lake Doubletree Hotel, they can accomplish their goal.

The hotel donated $32,000 worth of equipment to the shelter Friday. The donation included beds, sofas, lamps, chairs, tables, barstools, kitchen equipment, lighting fixtures and carpeting."When the business community becomes aware of these societal problems, its amazing how often we can help out. When we upgraded our hotel, we had a lot of good furniture left over. It was only natural to use it for something positive to help those in need in our community," said John Sindelar, Doubletree's marketing director.

The Westin Hotel Utah and Temple Square have also donated to the shelter.

When it is complete, the shelter will house 27 homeless families and 256 homeless single men. The new shelter is located at 450 W. 2nd South.
