Utahns may not think the fight over how much wilderness to create in the state is exactly funny, but an aspect of it hit the funny page in Newsweek magazine this week.

Its "Perspectives" page - which features editorial cartoons and humorous quotes - featured a response from Gene Griffin, a store owner in Escalante, to a Washington Post reporter about what he thinks of a proposal by Rep. Wayne Owens, D-Utah, to create 5.4 million acres of wilderness."To sum it up right quick, we'd like to hang him," Griffin said.

Owens happened to travel to Escalante on Monday, and he made it back without being hanged. "We just talked," he said.
