Southern Utah University students will honor fellow students and others at the annual Thunderbird Awards Night Monday, May 13.
According to SUU Students Activities Director Sallie Cooper, activities will begin with a dinner for nominees and their friends and families in the Student Center's Thunderbird Circle dining area at 6 p.m.A 7 p.m. reception will be held outside of the Randall L. Jones Theatre. The first half-hour of the reception will be by invitation only, and the second half-hour will be open to the public.
The Thunderbird Awards Ceremony will begin at 8 p.m. inside the theater and will include entertainment by student performers. The ceremony is free and open to the public and will be followed by a semiformal dance in the Student Center at 10 p.m.
Thunderbird Awards Night is co-chaired by Kris Fielding and Darin Heaton.
This year the Sterling Silver Award has been renamed the Elaine C. Southwick Meridith Award in honor of a former SUU faculty member who was also dean of women for seven years. The Sterling Silver Award was originally created under Meridith's direction.
