Clifford James Rampton, 84, first full-time fire chief of the Bountiful Fire Department, died Sept. 2, 1988, in a Bountiful hospital after a short illness.

Mr. Rampton joined the fire department as a volunteer in about 1919, was appointed volunteer chief in 1952 and hired in that position in 1967. He retired in 1970.For many years he worked in the lumber and hardware business and was the owner of what was then known as Farmers Feed and Lumber. The firm is now Colonial Lumber Co.

Mr. Rampton was active in the Bountiful Lions Club, serving as deputy district governor. He was the first recipient of the Bountiful Citizen of the Year Award and was a charter member and a founder of the Utah State Fire Chiefs Association.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Bountiful City Cemetery. Flowers may be delivered to Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. Fourth East. (See obituary B15.)
