Val Austin Palmer, age 61, died Wednesday, May 1, 1991 at Dixie Regional Medical Center.

He was born May 24, 1929, Snowflake, Arizona to Arthur and Evaline Agusta Gibbons Palmer. He married Isabelle "Peggy" Wilbanks, May 8, 1950, in Yuma, Arizona. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1953.Reared and educated in Holbrook, Arizona, Mr. Palmer graduated with honors from Holbrook High School and attended the University of Utah for two years. He served in th Marines during the Korean War. Served with the City Police in Winslow, Arizona and Clearfield, Utah, and with the Utah Highway Patrol for 32 years, where he was an outstanding First Aid Instructor . He retired as a Captain. Mr. Palmer also lived in Syracuse, Utah for 20 years before coming to St. George, Utah in 1985. An active member of the LDS Church, he had served as Executive Secretary, instructor in High Priests, High Priest Group Leader, Scout Master and Gospel Doctrine teacher. He loved hunting, horseback riding and woodworking.

Surviving family members include his wife, Peggy, St. George; two sons and one daughter, Rocky Palmer, Syracuse, Utah; Blaine Palmer, Logan, Utah; Mrs. Jeffrey (Jan) Campbell, St. George, Utah; 11 grandchildren; six brothers and two sisters, Harvey Palmer, Taylor, Arizona; Belton Palmer, Showlo, Arizona; Roy Palmer, Taylor Arizona; Van Palmer, Holbrook, Arizona; Duffy Palmer, Mt. Pleasant, Utah; Gus Palmer, Flagstaff, Arizona; Mrs. Ima Rose, Sandy, Utah; Mrs. Lon (Ila) Butler, Mesa, Arizona.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 6, 1991, 11 a.m. at the Syracuse LDS 7th Ward Chapel, 1625 South 1150 West, Syracuse, Utah. Friends may call Sunday at the Lindquist Clearfield Mortuary, 1050 South State, Clearfield, Utah, 7-8 p.m. and Monday at the Syracuse LDS Chapel, 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment: Syracuse City Cemetery, 1250 South 100 West, under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary.
