Abraham B. Thorup, age 89, passed away May 1, 1991, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Born September 23, 1901, in Salt Lake City, the son of John T. and Andrea Berg Thorup. Married Erma Boyce November 7, 1923, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Served two LDS missions with his beloved wife and sweetheart: 1923-1926 in Hawaii and 1967-1969 in Nauvoo. Served in various church positions including bishop's counselor, Sunday School and Stake Sunday School superintendent, Aronic Priesthood General secretary, High Priest group leader and many other positions. Worked for Packaging Corporation of American for 39 years as a salesman, salesmanager and designer of many packaging products. Upon his retirement, he continued his design work and formed his own company. He was still actively working in his business until his passing.Above all else, he loved his wife and family, taking great pride in each persons accomplishemnt, always with love and affection. His care for other people was manifested by his constant service and giving. He lived by this creed, "He who waits to give until he feels he can afford to give, will probably never live to experience the joy of giving."
Survived by his beloved wife and companion of 67 years; one son and two daughters, Leo B. and Jeanne Thorup; Robert P. and Lois Thorup Jensen, all Salt Lake City; and Robert H. and Elaine T. Hout, Centerville; 16 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Levi B. Thorup, Paradise, California; and James B. Thorup, Provo.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 4, 12 noon, in the Eagle Gate 2nd Ward, 135 North A Street. Friends may call at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Friday 6-8 p.m., and at the ward Saturday, 10:45-11:45 a.m. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
