The University of Utah finished 3rd and Brigham Young University 5th in the finals of team competition Wednesday in the WAC Tennis Championships.

Utah beat the University of Texas-El Paso, 3-2, and BYU beat Air Force, 3-2.Utah's Chris Reilly and Jason Muterspaw won singles matches, then Ed Perogrino and Jeff Weichers won the only doubles match to secure the win. BYU clinched its win with three singles wins - Herman Vandercasteele, George Chingas and Tyler Whitney.

The University of New Mexico won the WAC team title beating San Diego State, 5-3.

Individual competition opened Wednesday afternoon. Posting wins were Muterspaw, Chris Entzel, Reilly and Perogrino for Utah, and Vandercasteele, Whitney, Chingas, Will Calhoun and Gabe Pate for BYU.
