Parking along 700 North in Provo is now a thing of the past.

Beginning Wednesday, 700 North from 900 East to 200 West will have a "red curb" designation on both sides of the street. The action stemmed from a decision by the City Council last December that something could be done about traffic safety and the environment, and 700 North seemed a good place to start.

Cars parking on the street could receive a parking citation or be towed.

Students at Brigham Young University had protested the proposal because of the limited parking available around the university, but council members said that safety was more important than convenience.
