Michael J. Jones, an award-winning college publications director and former owner of a Connecticut communications and public relations firm, has been named director of publications at the University of Utah.
The appointment was announced by Pamela W. Fogle, director of public relations.Before starting his own firm in 1989 Eastford, Conn., he was director of public relations at Eastern Connecticut State University. He also served at ECSU as associate director of development, adjunct member of the communications department faculty, and principal speech writer for the president and executive staff.
From 1981 to 1985, he was director of public relations and adjunct professor of English at American International College in Springfield, Mass. He was editor of the bimonthly Alumni News and Centennial magazine, and his publications won national awards.
Jones received a bachelor of arts degree from American International College in 1979 and a master's degree in newspaper journalism from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communication at Syracuse University. He has been a reporter for the Springfield Daily News, covering the state legislature, corrections and education beats.
