County sheriff's investigators are searching for an alleged California fugitive for questioning about the slaying of a gas-station owner here last week.
Marjorie S. Rogers, 58, died Saturday of two .22-caliber gunshot wounds to the head, Chief Deputy Doug Squire said Tuesday.Rogers, who owned the Rogers' Roost gas station and convenience store with her husband, apparently was shot during a robbery about a half hour after she opened the station at 7 a.m., Squire said.
The robber took $150 from the store, located on Interstate 70 about 35 miles northeast of Moab.
Squire said leads are hard to check because so much cross-country traffic uses I-70.
"Evidence is pretty slim at the scene," he said, but deputies are seeking a man wanted in California who is now believed to be in Kansas.
