In a reorganization move to improve customer relations, Mountain Fuel Supply Co. has consolidated two former management positions in the southern Utah region.
Doyce L. Coates, a 26-year employee, was named manager of all operations. He formerly managed distribution operations, while Wayne Saltzgiver was manager of retail operations. Saltzgiver was transferred to Salt Lake City.Coates is now responsible for all activities in the region, including customer sales, system engineering, construction and maintenance, on-premises technical service, the business office and community affairs. He also manages offices in Richfield and Ephraim.
The new regional manager began his career with Mountain Fuel in 1965 as a utility worker. He worked his way up through the ranks from a welder to construction foreman, general foreman and superintendent of construction. He became maintenance and assistant division manager in the Salt Lake North Region, followed by a promotion to distribution operations manager in Price before moving to Richfield.
Reorganization of the southern region is aimed at improved customer service. "Recognizing that our customer services are an important strength in the increasingly competitive energy marketplace, we are taking steps to enhance those services," said D.N. "Nick" Rose, company president.
Mountain Fuel has 18 customer service centers in six geographical regions. The southern region is the newest, following the construction of a pipeline that extended from Indianola in northern Sanpete County through Sevier, Piute and Iron counties to Cedar City. It was later extended to the St. George area.
Richfield was selected as regional headquarters for the company's central and southwestern Utah systems, responsible for both retail and distribution operations. Area offices were located in Ephraim and Cedar City.
The company's latest venture to supply natural gas to southern Utah is in Millard and Beaver counties. Officials are securing community franchises in those counties, planning to tap into the Kern River Transmission pipeline that is being built between southwestern Wyoming and Southern California.
