Former Colombian justice minister Enrique Low Murtra, who led a campaign in 1987 to extradite Colombian drug barons to the United States, was killed Tuesday evening by two men who fled on a motorcycle.

Quoting people at the scene, Bogota radio said a young man walked directly up to Low Murtra, 52, and shot him four times in the face as he was walking out of La Salle University in central Bogota after teaching a class. The slaying took place on the same day and virtually at the same time as the killing of justice minister Rodrigo Lara Bonilla in 1984, which marked the beginning of the government's war against the drug barons.
