The sentencing of an Orem woman charged with abusing her 6-year-old son has been continued to Sept. 9.
Loretta Larsen, 33, was to be sentenced before 4th District Judge Ray M. Harding Friday. But Defense Attorney Claudia Laycock requested a week's delay.Deputy County Attorney Kay Bryson said Laycock wanted more time to discuss the matter with prosecuting attorneys before her client is sentenced.
In July, Larsen entered a no contest plea to second-degree felony child abuse in exchange for the dismissal of one count of Class A misdemeanor child abuse.
She had previously pleaded not guilty during her arraignment in 4th District Court.
Larsen was arrested April 5 by Orem police after they received reports that her son was periodically locked in his bedroom and handcuffed to the bed. Police reports say he was suffering from malnutrition.
