A Payson man who pleaded not guilty to five counts of raping a child has entered a one-year diversion agreement to avoid prosecution and will undergo psychological counseling.

Gary K. Long, 42, was charged with repeatedly raping his 15-year-old stepdaughter between August 1985 and September 1987. Earlier this summer, he pleaded not guilty to the charges and was scheduled to stand trial last month. As part of the diversion agreement, however, Long admitted "there have been sexual indiscretions." He also agreed to not break any laws over the next year and pay all therapy costs for himself and his stepdaughter.
