Lanethia Jones Carlson, formerly of Hyrum, died April 28, 1991 at the Sunshine Terrace in Logan, Utah. She was 96 years of age.

Born February 15, 1895, in Rigby, Idaho, to William H. and Annie Bambrough Jones, she was the sixth of twelve children in the family and was the only surviving member. She married Fred J. Carlson in Idaho Falls on August 4, 1921. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. He died March 25, 1980.Fred and Laneth moved to Hyrum in 1923. In addition to caring for home and family, Laneth was involved in many church and community organizations. She served as secretary and counselor in the Hyrum Third Ward Relief Society and Hyrum Stake Relief Society. She was president of the YWMIA in her ward. She worked for many improvements as president of Lincoln Elementary School PTA, including the initiation of the school lunch program at that school. She served as president of the Cache County PTA. As the organizer for many fund drives in the Hyrum area, she always made certain they were completed often doing much of the foot-work herself. She was active in DUP and the American Legion Auxiliary and always helped organize Hyrum's 4th of July celebration. During World War II she worked as a Ward Lady at Bushnell Army Hospital in Brigham City. She loved gardening and flowers, especially her roses. She was a proud and devoted grandmother and great-grandmother, and a kind and gracious neighbor.

She is survived by three children, Dr. Ralph F. and Harriet Carlson, Evansville, Indiana; Lt. Col. Ray W. and Helen Carlson, Grand Junction, Colorado and Annie Jean and Dr. Newel G. Daines, Logan, Utah; she is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center, Logan, Utah. Friends may call at the Mortuary from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Interment will be in the Hyrum City cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Capitol Theatre Restoration, P. O. Box O, Logan, Utah 84321.
