William Lee Powell, 91, died thursday, April 25, 1991 at the Tooele Valley Nursing Home of causes incident to age.
He was born September 2, 1899 in Desert Lake (Carbon County), Utah, a son of Dan Thomas and Emma Lozetta Higby. He married Rhoda Pearson on May 29, 1926 in Vernal, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He spent his youth in Duchesne, Utah and had lived in Davis County. He lived in Waterloo, New York and in Roy for 30 years.He was an active former member of the Roy 21st Ward and at the time of his death he was a member of the Grantsville 3rd Ward. He served a mission to the Southern States for 1919 to 1921 and managed Peter Whitmer's Farm for the LDS Church in Waterloo, New York for seven years. He was a farmer and had also worked at Hill Air Force Base as a security guard.
Surviving are his wife of Grantsville; one son and four daughters, William Kent and wife Vera Powell, Ogden; Mrs. Kilmer (Phyllis) Roundy, Washington, Utah; Mrs. Aleen Deming, Clearfield; Mrs. Allen (Janice) Knutson and Mrs. Ray (Carolyn) Valdez, both of Grantsville; 26 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Mary Bennion, Middleton, Idaho. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Bessie Lee Denosky.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., with Bishop Paul Zehpfenning of the Roy 21st Ward, officiating. Friends may call at the mortuary Sunday from 6-8 p.m. and Monday 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park.
