Lillian Irma Hanson Scalley, of Palm Desert, California, died of natural causes Thursday, April 25, 1991 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

A daughter of Florence Tuttle and Gordon Edson Hanson, she was born June 21, 1914 in Howard, South Dakota. Raised in Salt Lake City, she graduated from East High School and attended the University of Utah where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Lillian married Ford Taylor Scalley, May 18, 1937 in St.Mark's Cathedral in Salt Lake City, Utah. As a result of Ford's position with the Utah-Idaho Sugar Company, they traveled and made homes in South Dakota, Utah, Montana, Idaho and Washington. Their retirement home in Palm Desert was her "Eden" on earth.She is survived by her beloved husband and their four children, Suzan Scalley Taylor; Dianne Bourne Kennedy, Bend, Oregon; Ford Gordon Scalley and wife, Claudia; Muriel Scalley Derr and husband, Jeffery R., of Salt Lake City; sister, Mrs. J. Moburn (Muriel) Hardy, Ogden; 15 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Lillian was first, last, and always a lady. Her endearing sense of humor, engaging beauty, expert culinary skills an gracious hospitality charmed her friends. Her tender heart, selfless living and deep abiding love enfolded her husband, children, grandchildren and extended family. She was a member of the Episcopal Church. Preceded in death by her brother, Gordon Ray (Buddy), and son-in-law, John Nolan Bourne.

Funeral services will be held Monday, 12 noon, April 29, 1991 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 S. Highland Drive, where friends may call Sunday 6:30-8 p.m., and Monday one hour prior to services. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to CNS/Hospice of Salt Lake, 2970 S. Main St., SLC, UT 84115.
