The new hospital HealthTrust Inc. wants to build in Provo could be located on University Parkway at approximately 1900 North.

The 9.69 acres of property sit between Rick Warner Chevrolet Buick Geo Inc. and The Village Green commercial center. It is bordered by 450 West.Mark Hathaway, an ERA Cascade realtor handling the sale of the property, confirmed that HealthTrust has an option on the land. "There are negotiations," he said, adding that the deal "may or may not" go through.

The property is currently jointly owned by several people.

Healthtrust, which is based in Nashville, Tenn., began making plans for a 107-bed hospital in Provo six months ago. The corporation privately circulated prospectuses among local doctors to gauge their support for the facility. The national for-profit company owns Payson's Mountain View Hospital and five other hospitals in Utah.

A letter attached to the prospectus offered doctors part ownership in the hospital - tentatively named Mountain View Hospital North. Limited partnerships sell for $500, according to the letter.

"That's a nice site, and we're seriously looking at it," said Steve Walston, chief administrator at Mountain View.

But it's not the only location under consideration, he said. Walston declined to identify other possible sites.

"It's still up in the air. It's not really the site," he said of the University Parkway location. "I couldn't say that's where it's going to be built because we don't know."

Hathaway would not reveal the name or names of those with whom he is talking. "They've asked me to keep that confidential," he said.

Walston said local and corporate representatives are involved in the discussions.

Although property-acquisition discussions are under way, Walston said it doesn't mean the hospital is closer to being constructed. He said it is part of the process to determine whether the hospital would be feasible. A decision is not expected for several months.
