Plans have been scratched for a comeback bout next month by former heavyweight champion Leon Spinks.

After meeting with Spinks and his manager Dan Daly in Chicago, promoter Tommy Torino said all parties agreed it was too soon for Spinks to have a sanctioned professional fight.A bout between Spinks, 37, and orthopedic surgeon Harold "Hackie" Reitman of Plantation, Fla., had been considered for a card May 23 at Fort Lauderdale.

Torino said Spinks' weight of 218 pounds was one obstacle.

"He's definitely going to resume his career, but he wants to get down to 190," Torino said.
