The Seattle Times has apologized to the Portland Trail Blazers for printing a scathing letter about the Seattle SuperSonics that was signed "Marshall Glickman, Portland."

Glickman, the Blazers' senior vice president for marketing, didn't write the letter.Don Shelton, an assistant sports editor at the Times, said the paper's policy is to call each letter-writer for verification.

"But it turns out we did not confirm it this time," he said Monday. "This one slipped between the cracks."
