A kind loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Nelson D. Merkley, 66 years old, passed away April 24, 1991 at the University Hospital, after enduring a courageous struggle with a long illness.

Born December 13, 1924, in Tridell, Utah. Married Eva Muray April 26, 1950, in Vernal, Utah; later solemnized, Salt Laek LDS Temple. Lived and worked in Vernal, Utah. He was a well known building contractor who worked hard to improve the Uintah Basin area. He would not drive a nail until everything was perfect and when finished could be proud of the job he did. He was a High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Served as Sunday School superintendent and financial clerk for many years in various wards. He loved the harmonica and played with the "Happy Go Lucky" band.Survived by his wife, Eva of 41 years; two sons, Laird, of Eagle River, Alaska; Ryan, of West Valley City, Utah; four grandchildren, Gaylyn, Ryan, Jr., Lesley, and Skylar; brothers: Lyman, of Vernal; Evert, of Washinton, Utah; Nyle, of Midland, Texas; Dean, of Vernal; and Thoral, of Simi Valley, California; sisters: Mrs. Orval (Barta) Hullinger, of Roosevelt, Utah; Mrs. Richard (Lenore) Wells, Salt Lake City; and many nieces and nephews. In death, he rejoins his mother, Lelia Lyman Merkley; father, Bart Merkley; sister, Reva Denlinger and brother, Karl.

Nelson will be remembered for his kindness and caring.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 27th, 2 p.m., in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Chapel, 10600 South 1700 East. Friends may call at the Larkin Mortuary Downtown, 260 East South Temple, Friday evening, 6-8 p.m., and at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy, Saturday, one hour prior to services. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens.
