A University of Utah piano performance major placed second in the William S. Boyd international piano competition recently in Augusta, Ga. Zhang Qing was one of seven finalists chosen by taped audition to perform a full-length recital in live competition. The Shanghai native won $2,500. A junior, he is studying with Susan H. Duehlmeir, assistant professor of music. He performed last fall in the Utah Symphony's "Salute to Youth" and was third out of 1,700 contestants in the 1990 Young Keyboard Artist Competition.
