A 63-year-old French woman who was eating lunch with her tour group in a restaurant on Bethlehem's Nativity Square was apparently stabbed to death Tuesday by her Palestinian waiter, officials said.

The woman, whose name was not immediately released, was visiting the ancient city on the Israeli-occupied West Bank when she stopped to eat with friends near the Church of the Nativity, revered as the birthplace of Christ.State-controlled Israel Radio said she left the table and went to use the toilet in the basement, where she was stabbed in the chest by her waiter, who fled. Israeli authorities clamped a curfew on the city, 6 miles south of Jerusalem, and detained 30 people for questioning.
