Brigham Young University is one of nine universities sharing prize money in the annual William Randolph Hearst Foundation awards program.
BYU took third in the broadcast news category, winning a $2,500 prize. Arizona State University won the $10,000 first-place prize, followed by California State University-North-ridge, which received the $5,000 second-place award.The University of Utah took 10th place in broadcast news, receiving a medallion.
Often called "The Pulitzers of College Journalism," the program holds yearlong competitions in writing, photography and broadcast news.
Other first-place, $10,000 winners were Northwestern University in writing and Western Kentucky University in photojournalism.
