Columbia Pictures' "Boyz N The Hood," a drama about coming of age in black urban America, has been selected as an entrant in the 1991 Cannes International Film Festival.

The film marks the directorial debut of John Singleton, who also wrote the screenplay. Singleton will accompany the picture to Cannes for its premiere performance May 13.The story deals with three friends growing up in South Central Los Angeles, where street life initiates friendship, pain, danger and love.
