Mark Brooks defeated Gene Sauers on the third hole of their sudden death playoff when he matched par on the par-3, 17th hole in the Greater Greensboro Open on Sunday.

Brooks, who earned $225,000, closed with an 8-under-par 64 for a 13-under 275 total on the Forest Oaks Country Club course. Sauers had a final round of 69.After both players parred the first two holes of the playoff, they returned to No. 17. Brooks hit his tee shot in the left bunker and Sauers found the right sand trap for the second time on the 200-yard hole. Sauers second shot rolled 20 feet beyond the pin and Brooks hit his second shot within 3 feet.

John Huston and Bob Wolcott tied for third at 276. Lanny Wadkins , Bill Britton , Mike Hulbert and Jeff Sluman tied for fifth at 277.
