A newspaper said Friday that an air force squadron leader and eight other people have been arrested in connection with the plane crash that killed President Mohammed Zia ul-Haq.

Jang, an Urdu-language daily, quoted "informed sources" as saying the nine were arrested Thursday night at Islamabad Airport, which doubles as a military airbase.It did not name the suspects, identify them further, say where they were held, or detail their alleged involvement in the case. Government offices were closed Friday, the Moslem Sabbath, and officials were not available for comment.
