The Outlaw Trail Festival will sponsor its first fiddle and bluegrass festival Saturday, July 6, in Vernal's new Western Park.

The event is sponsored by the Uintah Arts Council and is under direction of Jim Shupe, a well-known fiddler. Shupe will conduct a workshop on fiddling from 8 to 10 a.m. and judge the contest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be four age categories: small fry, 8 and under; junior-junior, 9-12; junior, 13-17; and adult, 18 and older.Other Outlaw Trail Festival activities include the Outlaw Trail Theater production "Riders of the Wind," a song-writing contest with deadline of April 29, the Outlaw Trail Ride to Brown's Park June 14-16, a women's rifle competition June 20, USU story-telling workshop and competition July 5, and Western art exhibit. July 4 activities will include a patriotic program, children's parade, displays, arts, story-telling and concessions.
