Melinda Child, age 15, died Wednesday, April 17, 1991 in Layton due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born September 9, 1975 to Dale Lee and Dianne Shafer Child in Ogden; she was a Sophomore at Layton High School, she was very active in school activities. She had been an Usher at Central Davis Junior High, a member of the Thespians Drama Department at Layton High School, Accapella choir and newspaper staff at Central Davis. She participated in the school play "Pirates of Penzance" at Central Davis and the school play at Layton High School "Singing in the Rain". She liked to travel and take pictures with the family and other groups and had toured old Mexico. She was creative and excelled in many activities and received many awards. She was never selfish, loved life and was always happy. She had many friends and enjoyed hiking with them. She was a member of the LDS Church, active in the Layton 3rd Ward. She had been Beehive President and was currently a Mia Maid.Surviving are her father, Layton; mother, Kaysville; one brother and two sisters, Ben Child, Susan Child, Celia Anne Child, all of Layton; also surviving are her grandmother, Mrs. Katherine Child, Layton; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Shafer, West Valley City.
Funeral services will be held Saturday 11 a.m. at the Layton 3rd LDS Ward Chapel, 2435 E. 1500 No., with Bishop O. William Asplund officiating. Friends may call Friday 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1074 No. Fairfield Road, and at the church Saturday, from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment, Lindquist's Memorial Park at Layton.
